3. Malaga, Spain

Europe’s rail network makes it straightforward to reach southern Spain by train, with Málaga on the Costa del Sol as a rewarding destination.

Part of the stunning Andalucia region, Malaga and its surrounds are home to historic Moorish architecture. Our 10-day tour of Moorish Andalucia sees you visit Malaga, Cordoba, Granada and Seville. You'll also visit Ronda, perched high above the El Tajo gorge; it's easily one of Spain's most attractive spots.

4. Athens, Greece

Catch the train to Greece from Italy or go via Sofia in Bulgaria depending on where you start. And this is as exerting as it gets, as on our relaxing Greek Island Cruise, you'll board a traditional caique at Evia Island in Greece before spending a week visiting different bays and harbours.

In between swimming and snorkelling in the sea, you can eat at local restaurants, read a book on the spacious deck or get to know your fellow passengers better. Read Yasmin's take on the trip here.
