10 places to go in February

Wondering where is best to go in February? Escape the dark and dreary days and embark on an adventure holiday. Explore the snow-covered mountains of Poland during half term, cycle through a sea of blossom in Murcia or try and catch sight of the extraordinary Northern Lights in Iceland.

Walking adventures

Tanzania

February is one of the warmest months of the year in Tanzania, so it is a great time to take on the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro. Follow our local guides along the lesser-travelled but scenic Lemosho route, traversing through ever-changing variations of landscapes and wildlife. As you reach the summit, you may be lucky enough to see the curvature of the earth on the horizon and, although it will undoubtedly feel cold at this high altitude, the chill factor will be less severe at this time of year.

Cuba

While Walking in Cuba, you’ll be immersed in the warm hospitality and lush landscapes of this vibrant destination. Hike alongside rivers and spot hummingbirds in a tropical rainforest, before enjoying refreshments at a Hacienda Codina, a quaint lodge. Get to know Cuba’s history in Santa Clara, home to the mausoleum of Che Guevara, as well as a small museum.

Cultural discovery in the winter sun

Oman

February is at the end of Oman’s winter, so temperatures are pleasant and the rainy season is coming to an end. Immerse yourself in the bustling souks of Muscat, camp under the stars on a wild and rugged beach on the shores of the Arabian Sea, and watch the sun dip behind the towering honey-hued dunes of the Wahiba Sands for an unforgettable winter-sun adventure.

Philippines

Avoid the crowds and explore the Philippines in February when the weather is typically dry and fewer people visit. Head to Luzon, the largest island of the archipelago to get a great view of Banaue's 2,000-year-old rice terraces, wander down the cobbled streets of Spanish colonial towns, make a splash in the turquoise waters of the China Sea and hike up an active volcano to take in far-reaching panoramic views of a caldera lake.

Mexico

Enjoy some winter sun and take a cultural tour of Mexico in February. Step back in time and discover the timeworn pyramid of Chichen Itza, and explore the Maya tomb of Palenque, before cooking up a storm with a local family as you try your hand at some traditional Mexican dishes. The climate at this time of year is warm and dry (more comfortable than the high summer temperatures) and you can avoid the crowds who tend to flock here in December and January.

Ice adventures

Iceland

If viewing the Northern Lights is on your bucket list, February is a great month to try and catch a glimpse of this striking natural phenomenon. Join our Iceland Winter Adventure and head into the vast icy plains of rural Iceland for the best chance of seeing the colourful auroras. Keep looking up under the fall of darkness, and you might be lucky enough to see the distinctive flashes of fluorescent green and purple shooting across the dark starry skies.

Cycling adventures

Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam

Exploring the highlights of South East Asia, you’ll travel predominantly by bike through lush jungles, along waterways, and on quiet backroads, from Bangkok to Saigon. Along the way, a visit to Khao Yai National Park will reward you with impressive panoramic views from Thailand’s largest dam, as well as a dip in refreshing cool mountain waters. Later in the trip, you’ll experience a traditional homestay, complete with an authentic Vietnamese meal made from locally sourced ingredients.

Murcia, Spain

With a semi-arid climate and mild winter temperatures, the Spanish region of Murcia is a fantastic destination for a winter cycling holiday. Feel the warmth of the sun on your back as you jump on the saddle and pedal along quiet roads into the beautiful countryside surrounding Cieza. February is also the best time to see the almond and apricot blossom, known locally as ‘La Floracion’; a sea of pink and white flowers flows through the valleys against a backdrop of low mountains and blue skies, marking the beginning of Spring.
