With many routes becoming crowded and more touristy it gets harder to see the real culture of Nepal. Explore has been looking for new treks away from the crowds where you can really appreciate the natural beauty and mingle with the locals.
Manaslu Circuit promises to be the next big thing - perhaps as popular as the Annapurna Circuit, but if you go now, you will be doing so with a pioneering spirit. The route is so little known that teahouses have not even been built yet - so Explore will take care of you with full service camping. Passing though unspoilt villages, and immersing yourself in the strong Tibetan culture of this region of Nepal, you will enjoy views of the world's 8th highest mountain (Manaslu, 8163m) and trek to a height of 5213m.
The mysterious 'Forbidden Kingdom' of Mustang used to be closed to foreigners and only opened in 1992. The permit fee means it has remained a very exclusive trekking route visited by just a lucky few. A strong Tibetan culture, Buddhist Monasteries and hardy but open locals makes this one of the most rewarding places to visit in Nepal. Again, teahouses have not really been developed, a sign that the tourist dollar has not yet tarnished this region. However, you will really enjoy Explore's full service camping. With an August departure in 2011, it is perfect for teachers and others restricted to summer holiday depatures!
