How was your Explore Tour Leader?
Whitey, our head guide was simply amazing, wise, kind, expert and inspirational
What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?
"A thick down jacket I think is not only recommended but essential both for around camp but also for summit night.
A fleece sleeping bag liner for extra warmth.
Mountaineer's gloves and hand warmers. I thought I had good gloves but still had freezing hands on summit night.
Snacks for energy. Protein/muesli bars were good for the first few days but useless on summit night as they were frozen rock hard. Summit night requires squares of chocolate and energy gel sachets"
Do you have anything else to add?
It was a trip of a lifetime and a very special experience getting to the top. I felt a special bond with my fellow group trekkers. Don't underestimate the discomfort of camping at altitude. I think a successful Kili experience comes down to 50% fitness, 25% preparation (gear, tour selection, group dynamics) and 25% mental which includes following instructions from the guide which is basically eat, drink, rest, go slowly.
