We've given each of our tours a comfort rating and a tour pace, walking or cycling grade to give you a general idea about the level of activity on each tour and the standard of accommodation you will be staying in at the end of your day's adventure.

Local crew - Although entirely voluntary, tipping is a recognized part of life in this region of the world. Some local staff will look to members of the
group for personal recognition of particular services provided. In order to make things easier for you, the Tour Leaders may organise a group’s tips kitty
and if this is the case, they will account for it throughout the tour.
Accordingly you should allow approx. £50 for gratuities for local staff.
Tour Leader: At your discretion you might also consider tipping your Tour Leader in appreciation of the efficiency and service you receive.

Local Currency: Communaute Financiere Africaine Franc (commonly known as CFA). The responsible authority is the Central Bank of the West African States.
Recommended Currency for Exchange: We suggest you take the majority of your spending money in mainly Euros cash. Take mixed denomination bills in good condition.
Where to Exchange: Your Tour leader will assist you.
ATM Availability: Very Limited.
Travellers Cheques: Travellers cheques are hard to exchange and we recommend you rely on Euros cash.
Additional Information: Do not attempt to change money on the black market.

It is a condition of joining any of our tours that you must have valid travel insurance. It must indicate that you have cover for (at least) medical expenses and emergency repatriation in the event of illness or injury. We also strongly recommend your policy includes cancellation protection as all deposit paid are non-refundable.

Entry visas are required by all nationalities.
A single-entry visa for Ghana and Togo for UK citizens must be obtained before travel.
All passport information should be made available at the time of booking as Explore are required to produce letters of guarantee to support some visa applications. Passports must be valid for 6 months and have three blank pages for the visas.
Visas are available through the individual countries Embassies, or you may choose to use Explore’s recommended visa service, Visa Swift. www.visaswift.com In order to take advantage of the discounted fees Visa Swift will need to receive your passport by the dates listed next to your respective tour date below. The date when your passport will be returned is quoted too.

Back to topA valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required for entry into Ghana. We recommend protection against malaria, hepatitis A, diphtheria, tetanus, typhoid and polio. Although the risk is low you may also consider immunisation against rabies and meningococcal meningitis. Consult your travel clinic for latest advice on different prophylaxis available against Malaria. We also recommend that you take your vaccination certificates with you as they may be requested on entry to Ghana.

Back to topGhana has a mostly tropical climate with more rain falling inland. Central and Southern Ghana have
two rainy seasons from May-June and mid-Sept to early October. Rain usually falls in short bursts
in the afternoon or early evening. Travel is generally unaffected by the rains except on some of the
less wellmaintained roads. Temperatures are usually in the high 20’s °C all year round, but can
reach the mid 30s from December though to April. Humidity is high.
The climate in Togo is mostly tropical with two main rainy seasons in the central and
southern regions - May to June and September to November. This should not adversely affect the
trip as the tour operates outside the rainy seasons.
Make sure you pack light as temperatures are warm and humidity is high all year round. Warm clothing is needed particularly at night and in the early morning. Lightweight, hard wearing gloves are useful for protecting hands during the treks. Long sleeved shirts and long trousers are recommended for protecting arms and legs as well as a raincoat, as showers can be unpredictable in the rainforest.
