Travel to India offers an experience which cannot be seen all in one solo holiday, according to the country's Ministry of Tourism.
Rajen Habib Khwaja, secretary for tourism in the Asian country, noted that the country was a year-round destination and people will find that one visit was not enough to explore what was on offer, adding that travellers could also visit India on an adventure holiday.
"Besides the fantastic cultural and heritage tourism products, India today offers a range of new products in adventure and sports tourism, both soft and hard," he said.
"One can go for mountaineering in the Himalayas or white water river rafting in Ganges or discover the Valley of Flowers at one's own leisurely pace."
He added that over the coming years, India's distinctive regions will play greater importance as they each try to promote rural tourism in the country.
Figures recently published by STR Global found that more hotels are being built in India, as a rise in tourist numbers is expected.
