Actress and cookery writer Fay Ripley recommends Australia's largest city

The Australian city of Sydney has the best food in the world, according to actress Fay Ripley, who also reserved special praise for the architecture of the region.

Ms Ripley, who has also written a cookbook called Fay's Family Food, said that there are many reasons that Australia's largest city is her favourite destination in the world, listing the many reasons people on solo holidays could visit.

Speaking to the Independent newspaper about her life in travel, the actress recommended Sydney's cuisine and culture.

"The food is the best in the world as far as I'm concerned and the architecture is beautiful, with lots of little Victorian terraces and amazing modern buildings," she said.

"It's incredibly multicultural and the shopping's amazing. Plus, it's surrounded by water, beaches and inlets. You could never feel claustrophobic there."

Some of Ms Ripley's more famous roles include starring as Jenny Gifford in three series of ITV's sitcom drama Cold Feet and as Nicola Perrin alongside Martin Clunes in Reggie Perrin.
