Solo holidays in Tokyo should take in the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower
Travelling to Tokyo on a solo holiday is a "fast and frenetic" but ultimately enjoyable experience, according to the Daily Telegraph's travel production editor.
Adrian Bridge, a former foreign correspondent who specialises in Far East travel, said that the Tokyo is "a hard city to get to know" due to the cultural mix found there, but the experience is worth it.
"There's the utterly alien nature of the culture and language … there's the oddness of much of the food; the juxtaposition of age-old tradition … and the ultra-modern," he said.
A great attraction in Tokyo is the circular observatory on top of the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, which offers fantastic 360-degree views of the city, from where you can see the sheer scale of the region.
Mr Bridge noted that it is possible to see "three or four districts of dazzling lights and towering buildings - any of which, in most cities, could count as a centre".
