Visit Kenya for the 'prolific' wildlife

Author and broadcaster travels the 'dramatic' Great Rift Valley

An author and broadcaster has suggested that people planning wildlife-watching adventure holidays should visit Kenya, as the east African country has great opportunities for spotting animals.

Diana Preston, who has written popular history books on events such as the Boxer Rebellion and the race to the South Pole, visited the country and told the Daily Telegraph of her experiences.

She praised the Great Rift Valley in Kenya - which stretches into neighbouring Ethiopia - as being both "dramatic" and "lush".

"Here the wildlife is prolific. Cape buffalo, zebra and waterbuck grazed the shore as a trio of white rhino ripped up grass," she said.

"Hundreds of flamingos turned the shimmering lake as rosy-pink as a Monet painting."

As well as being a broadcaster for the BBC, Ms Preston has written books such as The Road to Culloden Moor: Bonnie Prince Charlie and the '45 Rebellion and Before the Fallout: From Marie Curie to Hiroshima.
