'Greycationers' are looking to travel further and on more adventurous holidays
The market for travellers over 50 has experienced a rapid expansion over the last few years, including in the arena of adventure holidays, it has been revealed.
According to LV= Travel research, older travellers now make up more than half of all overseas holiday spending. The over-50s annual spend around £17.6 billion on travel.
And Sarah Gordon, a journalist putting forward her opinion in the Daily Mail newspaper, has predicted that this trend will continue.
"And intrepid 'greycationers' are not stopping there. Experts predict the amount they spend on holidays will almost double in the next 10 years," she wrote in the news provider.
"Older travellers are looking for more adventure from their holidays and are trading in the traditional beach break and heading off the beaten track to exotic destinations like Borneo and Bolivia."
The over-50s spend £883 on every overseas trip; their younger counterparts (the under-50s) spend around £528.
