Town is home to traditional markets and restaurants, says travel writer
Travellers looking to experience the real Turkey should book adventure holidays in Fethiye, it has been claimed.
Dan Hipgrave, a member of British rock group Toploader, recently visited the country and claimed that the town of Fethiye has all the hallmarks of Turkey.
He wrote on the Daily Mail website: "Fethiye is a pretty town in the foothills of Mount Mendos, part of the Taurus Mountains, and surrounds the bay to which it gave its name.
"It offers a better taste of real Turkey than other towns along the coast, with streets full of locals sipping Turkish tea, as well as tourists buying Turkish Delight. There are plenty of fish restaurants and some good shopping."
Mr Hipgrave added that the town's main shopping area, Paspatur, features several pedestrianised streets, which are home to "wonderful" shops selling gold and jewellery, carpets and leather.
Guests should take a bottle of water to keep hydrated in the extreme heat, which can reach 100C, he added.
