For walking and
trekking holidays in Europe visit Italy's Dolomites in the north-east.
Italy's mountainous Dolomites are an ideal location for tourists interested in walking and trekking holidays in Europe.
The mountainous region has plenty of natural scenic beauty, which has earned it protected status under the UNESCO World Heritage scheme.
Situated in the north-east of the country, the mountains can be enjoyed on the Hiking in the Dolomites itinerary, which also takes in the magnificent floating city of Venice and the iconic landscapes of Tre Cime.
Making up the northern part of the Italian Alps, the Dolomites comprise 18 separate peaks above 3,000 metres and cover a total area of 141,903 hectares.
They are widely considered to be some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring mountains anywhere in the world, being made up of a number of pinnacles, spires and towers carved from rock over thousands of years.
After spending time trekking in the region, holidaymakers can return to Venice for a change of pace at the end of the itinerary, taking in one of Italy and Europe's most beautiful and historically important cities.
