Explore Corfu on trekking and walking holidays
E-mail Print

The beautiful Greek island of Corfu offers great trekking and walking routes

Corfu might be best known for its glorious beaches and perfect summer weather, but it is also a great choice for trekking and walking holidays.

The Greek island is dotted with beautiful monasteries, winding old streets and quaint sun-baked villages.

Some of the best routes involve walking through the wonderful Corfu Town, which has become famed over the centuries for its exquisite architecture and boasts two castles for exploration.

While you're walking through the town, visit the beautiful Spianada square or Liston, the city's aristocratic quarter, where the rich and powerful once congregated in the evenings to enjoy pleasant strolls.

More robust treks are to be had in the surrounding hills and forests, with Issos Forest and Ropa Valley some of the island's most bewitching sites.

Pack a sturdy pair of walking boots if you plan to make the journey to the Byzantine villages of Old Perithia and Mengoulas by foot, and remember to drink plenty of water while enjoying the afternoon sun.
