Libya set to be popular holiday location in 2011

Travellers from across Europe will be increasingly looking to book adventure holidays in Libya next year, it has been claimed.

Travel writer Benji Lanyado expressed his belief that those with a sense of adventure will be looking to seek the sun in the African nation instead of more traditional locations such as Egypt and Turkey.

He wrote on the Guardian website: "More adventurous travellers [are] trying out more unusual – but equally accessible – destinations.

"Libya is the last north African country to open up to European tourism and has seen steady rises in visitor numbers since the recent relaxation of visa requirements, making it possible for visitors to obtain visas at the point of entry."

According to the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree travel forum, Libya's 2008-12 tourism programme is aiming to attract approximately 1.5 million visitors a year.

Libya is located in north Africa and neighbours Egypt, Sudan, Chad, Niger, Algeria and Tunisia.
