People planning to take an adventure holiday might want to consider visiting Sigiriya, in Sri Lanka, which is an "incredible feat of human ingenuity".
According to an expert writing in the travel magazine Wanderlust, the attraction - which a vast and ancient rock fortress - is one of the "greatest travel experiences" in the world.
"Woven into a 150m-high pillar of rock, this incredible feat of human ingenuity dating to the fifth century AD was once home to kings and, later, Buddhist monks," the writer noted on the adventure travel publication's website.
"Explore the elaborate water garden, boulder garden and terrace gardens, and ascend through the levels of the city to see the mirror walls and ancient fresco paintings that make this a Unesco World Heritage site."
It is not known when exactly Sigiriya was built, but it is believed to have been around since around the 5th century BC. People visiting the attraction on adventure holidays should take in the beautiful frescos that are painted onto the walls.
