People can buy traditional items from local people in Atacama
Adventure travellers looking for a place to explore should travel to the Chilean region of Atacama, and specifically to the town of San Pedro de Atacama, according to the travel promotion organisation for the country.
Tourismo Chile noted on its website that the area has something that will appeal to many different travellers on adventure holidays.
"This town is of particular interest to foreign visitors on account of its fame as a place for spiritual enrichment, and because it is considered to be the archaeological capital of Chile," the organisation said.
"Articles made by local people are for sale in the handicrafts market on the main square."
Further cementing the region's status as the top place for the study of fossils and other buried artefacts is the Padre le Paige, which is an archaeological museum which shows items stretching back to the time of the Spanish conquest.
