Many Ghanaian cities have interesting markets
Shopping in the markets of the Ghanaian city of Accra is a "fun" activity for people on solo holidays, according to destination management experts dmAFRICA.
Alan Brown, sales and marketing director at the travel organisation, noted that Accra is not the only city in Ghana with a market worth visiting.
"The markets of Accra and other large cities are open every day. However, it is much more enjoyable to include a visit to a country town on market day," he said.
"Choosing one suitable for you is a complex matter, and there are special guide books to assist you with your choice."
While Mr Brown said the majority of the markets sell the "staple goods", he added that the most "popular buy for tourists is a sacred stool, which are various and made according to different traditions and religious motifs".
Earlier this year Ghana was ranked 6th in the Wanderlust Travel Awards 2011, in the category of Top Emerging Destination.
