Active Family Holidays

Boredom won't get a look in on our range of active family holidays. Try out a new activity or improve your skills doing something you've tried before. Most activities are included in the price and if you've still got some energy left, there are often some optional ones to choose from as well. Try your hand at canoeing, cycling, horse-riding or even riding a camel!

Our active family holidays are guaranteed to inspire your brood's curious spark. But where do you start and how do you plan for your active escape that'll keep your toddler as absorbed as your teen?

Here is our advice on how to take that unforgettable adventure holiday, whether your kids are five or 15:

Planning

Family-ThailandIf you really want to get them excited before you've even stepped on the plane, make sure they're involved in the planning of your getaway. Show them brochures with plenty of pictures and surf the internet for inspiration. A destination or activity may resonate with them: perhaps they've been taught about Costa Rica's rainforest or scrolled through images of hilltribes in Thailand? Alternatively, they may secretly harbour a fascination for nesting turtles or trekking in the Atlas Mountains. You might never know unless you ask.

Get fit

Heading to Costa Rica's balmy rainforest? If your adventure involves travelling in unusually hot or cold temperatures, whether sailing south for an Antarctic cruise or rafting down a Costa Rican river, they need to be reasonably fit and have enough stamina. If trekking's on the agenda, make sure you head out for a few longer walks beforehand. And if they're poor at swimming, avoid trips involving lots of aquatic action.

Packing

Family-Scuba-DivingExplore can give you plenty of pre-trip advice, but don't forget to pack the essentials: a comprehensive travel insurance policy; first aid kit with plenty of suncream and antihistamines as standard; photocopies of all key documents, from passports to driver's licence; plus key telephone numbers such as those for the loss of a credit card. Ensure you've got all the right gear, too; our tour notes and general information booklet (sent after you've booked) contain a wealth of useful information.

Best for toddlers

They may be young, but your tots will love the exotic sights of Morocco, whether strolling through the rugged beauty of the Atlas Mountains' foothills, taking a horse-drawn carriage ride through Marrakech, or trying a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice surrounded by the fragrant scent of spices and incense in the main square. And of course, they will have great fun on the sandy beaches at the coast.

The price of our eight-day Mountains and Souks Family Holiday For Toddlers In Morocco trip includes flights, accommodation, some meals and tour leader services.

See our Toddler Tours page for our full range of trips specially designed for families with younger children.

Best for teens

Take your teens away from their all-encompassing digital world and journey east for an exotic trip to India's Kerala region. From mouthwatering cookery lessons and cruises along the state's mysterious backwaters to cycling along the Arabian Coast and coming face-to-face with elephants, Kerala is a tantalising destination that will induce their passion for travel, while you bond over this bewitching state.

The price of our 12-day Family Holiday in Kerala includes flights, accommodation, some meals and tour leader services. Look out for the teenage departures marked in the dates and prices section.
