The three passions in my life are travel, cycling and (in case she reads this) my wife. Seeing a new country from a saddle is therefore the perfect experience, enhanced by the company and shared experiences of fellow cyclists.
I never do any research or reading before visiting a new country. I like to set off with preconceptions to see how they pan out. I'm always surprised. Nowhere is as you expect when you get under the skin. I do the reading when I return. I'm still absorbing books on Cambodia a year after cycling up from the Mekong Delta to Siem Reap. I was blown away by the solitude and beauty of the countryside in Albania and I'm still removing lava sand trapped between my toes in stunning Iceland.
It’s difficult to select a favourite from all the places I've visited with Explore, but one of the most the most memorable is undoubtedly Cuba: a truly fascinating country with a laid back Caribbean approach to salsa infused communism.
