Just a short flight from the UK, Spain is perennial favourite with the adventure traveller and it is easy to see why.
Away from the crowded Costas, the interior of the country boasts a rich heritage of picturesque white villages, great Moorish monuments such as the Alhambra Palace in Granada and a landscape of hills and high plains dotted with vineyards and olive groves.
Follow the famous pilgrims trail along the Camino de Santiago, ride on the narrow gauge railways of the Basque region or visit Spain’s oldest bullring in Ronda. If you prefer more of a challenge, you can go hiking amongst the spectacular peaks of the Pyrenees and Picos de Europa or cycle along the back roads of Andalucía.
In the Mediterranean, the island of Mallorca offers some fine trekking amongst the rugged Tramuntana Mountains and the Canary Islands, situated off the coast of Africa, with their year-round good climate are perfect for European winter walking.
